The Ranger Hybrid Home is a living-laboratory & demonstration home developed for construction in Greensburg, Kansas. In the evening of May 4, 2007, Greensburg was devastated by an F5 tornado that traveled rapidly through the area, leveling at least 95 percent of the city and killing twelve people. Following this disaster, the town and its leadership made a commitment to rebuild as a model of green community planning. The purpose of The Ranger is to illustrate a multitude of environmentally friendly construction methods & materials, intelligent & efficient systems & strategies, as well as cost-effective solutions designed specifically for its site on Sycamore St with an eye towards replication throughout the country. This design was short-listed for construction in a competition sponsored by the town and freegreen.com. Download the information on the Ranger’s features here.
